My Story

My life has been a series of accidental discoveries. First, I discovered cycling through a soccer injury. Pedaling was my rehab, so I was kind of forced into it. Then, I discovered Zwift through the pandemic. With all the races cancelled and no traveling allowed, I had no choice but the indoor trainer. And I’m way too competitive to not race.

I went to school for Exercise Science, but I’m currently a writer for Velonews, Cyclingnews, TrainingPeaks, and others. I started blogging during college when I was traveling and racing for nine months out of the year. When all that went away, I tried this indoor cycling game that I’d been hearing about for years. Everyone always said “It totally sucks,” and “It’s the hardest racing I’ve ever done.” So as a certified masochist, I knew I had to try it.

A year later, I was scrambling to find a team ahead of the inaugural Zwift Premier League. I sent messages to everyone, but no takers. Eventually, I received an Instagram DM from a guy named Brian Duffy, Jr. Boy am I glad I accepted the request. I’ve been having fun ever since, racing with NeXT and now dominating the Premier League, it’s been a surreal experience.

How you discovered Zwift

It all started with the pandemic of 2020. I had been training to be a professional road racer, but suddenly, there was no real-life racing left. So I decided to try Zwift, and I was immediately hooked.

Real life athletics background

I played soccer from the time I was a kid all the way until high school. But a series of knee injuries meant that my running and jumping days were over – at least for a while – so I turned to the sport of cycling, thanks in many parts to my dad and his leftover bikes from 20 years of road racing and triathlon. I progressed extremely quickly in the sport, going from a Cat 5 to a Cat 2 in just three months. A few years later, I was attending Marian University-Indianapolis, where my personal highlight was winning the 2017 Collegiate National Championship in the Individual Time Trial. Nowadays, I balance training with family and work, while also competing in Zwift, track racing, and some road racing.

FUN FACT:
I once rode 240 miles in 12 hours, from 7pm to 7am.
